About the Job:

As a Systems Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, monitoring, and operation of large format display LED volumes, networking, and video distribution systems. This role involves assisting in the design, building, and maintenance of various components crucial to the on-set display volume work, and day-to-day operations.

In the studio you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of technical systems, whether working with the team on a project for a client, maintenance on a dark day, or internal creative and innovation efforts.

Responsibilities

Large Format Display:

  • Assist in the operation, maintenance and expansion of a flagship virtual production LED volume stage.


Video Distribution and Monitoring System:

  • Collaborate within a larger team to design, build, and maintain video distribution and monitoring systems.


Render and Control Systems:

  • Work with the team to design, build, and maintain hardware for render nodes and control systems.


Network Infrastructure:

  • Collaborate within a larger team to design, build, and maintain the IT network infrastructure for the entire stage facility.


Camera and Tracking Systems:

  • Be responsible for Synapse’s internal stage camera package.
    Assist external productions with integrating virtual production camera hardware/technology into their workflows.


Color Pipeline:

  • Collaborate with Production and the VP Supervisor to define, build, and maintain a color pipeline for the on-set virtual production process, meeting the needs of each individual Production.


On-Set Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operation of all physical aspects of LED operation, content serving, camera, tracking, video distribution/monitoring, networking, etc.
  • Work closely with VP Supervisor to ensure all hardware, software and networking dependencies are met for projects.

 

Qualifications (must haves):

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and diplomacy skills
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and efficient in handling multiple tasks
  • Self starter who takes initiative with technical needs around the studio during projects, tours & demos, and preventative maintenance
  • Ability to execute technically difficult work under the pressure of a studio production environment
  • Advanced knowledge of large format display systems and module LED technology
  • Advanced experience with Brompton video processing equipment and similar products
  • Highly computer literate with Windows-based systems
  • Advanced PC proficiency at a component level, with the ability to self manage PC maintenance and upgrade tasks
  • Excellent troubleshooter in diagnosing and solving issues in complex integrated systems
  • General working knowledge of camera systems
  • Familiarity with camera tracking systems (Stype preferred)
  • Familiarity with broadcast engineering workflows
  • Knowledge of timing systems (sync generators, master clocks, etc)
  • Experience working in live events/productions/tv/film required
  • Some familiarity with live broadcast and broadcast engineering


Qualifications (nice to haves):

  • Linux experience (Rocky Linux or RHEL)
  • Familiarity with Perforce
  • Familiarity with CAD software (Vectorworks preferred)
  • Knowledge of screens management (Aquilon, Barco E2, Spyder X20/X80, etc)
  • Knowledge of Unreal Engine, Pixera, and Megapixel products
  • Familiarity with visual effects and live-action film production concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Experience with projection systems
  • Broadcast engineering experience
  • Experience with live broadcast and event workflows
